An Urban Tree Canopy is the layer of trees which cover the ground when viewed from above.
In urban areas, the tree canopy provides an important function of stormwater management in which the canopy absorbs rainfall that would otherwise run off of paved surfaces.
The Urban Tree Canopy also helps to protect cities from extreme heat while they improve air quality. It is an example of green infrastructure.
