Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from the fruit of the oil palms. The oil is used in food, beauty products, and as a biofuel.
Palm oil is a major driver of deforestation of some of the world’s most biodiverse forests. This forest loss is releasing millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and contributing to climate change.
The harvesting of palm oil also destroys the habitat of endangered species like the Orangutan, Pygmy Elephant and Sumatran Rhino.
