Groundwater recharge is the process of external water being added to an aquifer.
This process happens naturally from precipitation and runoff from nearby waterways.
Groundwater recharge happens at a much slower pace than the current rate of groundwater uptake (mainly for agricultural usage), so wells continue to be dug deeper to reach the groundwater reserves. THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE.
