food security

The people’s right to a secure supply of food.

According to a definition established by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at the World Food Summit (WFS) in Rome in 1996 – food security is achieved when “everyone has physical, social and economic access at all times to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.”
