EV stands for Electric Vehicle, also referred to as BEV for Battery Electric Vehicle.
Electric vehicles are powered by electric motors that draw electricity from rechargeable batteries.
EV’s are charged by the power grid and do not need any fossil fuel. Locally, the vehicle is 100% emission-free.
Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) is a subset of BEV’s & EV’s but is most commonly called a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). It has an engine that uses combustible fuel – usually petrol or diesel – alongside a chargeable electric motor.
Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is a traditional hybrid electric vehicle that runs a petrol engine which charges a battery. An HEV cannot be plugged in.
