Data is a set of facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis.

The process of gathering facts from quantities, characters, or symbols is performed by a computer and then stored (and transmitted) in the form of electrical signals. The data is then recorded on magnetic, optical, or mechanical recording media.

The process of decision making based on data is one of logic, reasoning or calculation.
