COP stands for Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It is the largest annual gathering on global climate action.
The conference focuses on urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions (ghg), adapting to the inevitable impact of climate change, and delivering on commitments to finance climate action in developing countries (such as transitioning away from coal).

The United Nations / COP29
COP29 is being dubbed the “finance COP” because it’s seen as a chance to align climate funding with global needs. However, key aspects of the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) are still being debated, including the target, who contributes, the scope of funding, and the relevant Paris Agreement articles.
COP28, held last year in Dubai, was the largest climate conference ever, with 97,000 delegates and over 150 heads of state. The key outcome was the first Global Stock Take, a mid-term review of progress on the 2015 Paris Agreement. The conference highlighted the urgent need for action on renewable energy and a just transition.
The United Nations / COP27
COP 27 worked to renew solidarity between countries to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement (established at COP 21), building on the outcomes of COP 26.
