Concentrating solar power (csp) technologies use mirrors to reflect and concentrate sunlight onto a receiver which uses the sun’s thermal (heat) energy to generate electricity.
The energy from the concentrated sunlight heats a fluid in the receiver to a high temperature, and drives traditional steam engines to generate electricity. The thermal energy harnessed in a concentrating solar power plant can be stored and used to produce and provide electricity whenever needed, day or night.
This method of solar power generation is ideal for areas with strong solar radiation such as the American Southwest.
