The Global Carbon Budget is the sum of all inputs and outputs of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s Atmosphere.

It is designed to help understand and manage the CO2 movement between sources and sinks within the ecosphere, with the shared goal to create carbon neutrality for net zero emissions.

According to The Global Carbon Project, based on the 2021 global carbon budget, the budget must be reduced by 1.4 billion tonnes of CO2 on average each year in order to reach net zero by 2050.
