Opposing forces will grow in one direction or another depending upon the amount of attention fed to them through feedback loops.

The earth-atmosphere energy balance is achieved as the energy received from the Sun balances the energy lost by the Earth back into space. This balance is how our Earth maintains a stable average temperature and therefore a stable climate.
