Create a beautiful school community garden

Why: Your volunteer efforts will create needed green spaces on the campus, benefiting students, pollinators, and the larger community. This school serves 694 students in grades 6-12, with 96% of students identifying as minorities. Thanks to your work, students will grow into great environmental stewards for their community, while learning about the importance of biodiversity and food security systems.
Who: In partnership with California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers (Office of the Governor), L.A. Works is on a mission to amplify environmental justice initiatives supporting the communities most impacted by climate change.
What to Expect:
+ Remove weeds
+ Level ground in preparation for planting
+ Build planter boxes
+ Plant native or drought-tolerant plants
+ Volunteers will also paint the planters.
+ Water and light snacks will be provided
What’s Required:
+ No experience necessary
+ Must be comfortable with hands-on physical work (i.e. cleaning, pulling weeds, shoveling, and digging) and comfortable working with and around children and adults
+ Adults should be able to lift up to 25 lbs. (or ask for other tasks by emailing the Opportunity Leader)
+ Wear closed-toe shoes, a hat, long pants, and long-sleeve shirts.
+ Gloves and tools will be provided (bring your own gloves if preferred)
